... Just come over from Remember The Milk, can't figure out how you actually mark a task as complete. Do you just tick the box, that's it, it doesn't disappear?

Welcome!
That's correct. Just check off your task and it will be marked as complete. Depending upon your settings it may still show on your list when you refresh the view (if you have it set to view completed tasks.)
I've converted from Remember the Milk as well. I am so glad I did! RTM had a lot of good features but Toodledo seems to be a much better fit for me.
