Could someone explain what happens with sharing if I want to share my folders privately with someone read-only for awhile and then give the person read-write access (so the person could assign tasks)? I'm not sure I understand the FAQ.

You can do this. Select the collaborator in the Collaboration setup page. You can then select which folders you want them to see, and you can click the checkboxes to make it so that that only the top checkbox "read my tasks" is selected. They will then be able to only read those folders. Later, you can adjust these settings to give them permission to edit or add tasks to those shared folders.
