iOS: Bottom Sync Bar Red?

Sometimes the status bar at the bottom of the screen in the iOS app is red while a sync is being done. But sometimes it's not. What is meant by this?

Red means an error happened and it should display the error in that red bar to let you know what happened.

When are we going to see a new iOS app. Even just the same as the current one, just faster, slicker etc?
