How do I recover notes on a task

In the web interface I have several times either accidentally removed all the notes on a task or hit esc right after I entered notes on a task (I am a vi user). It there any way I can get my data back (versioning) or I can change it so esc does not loose all the data I entered. This is really the only thing that causes me problems.
