I try syncing the iphone since there is no wireless here where I am working and the calendar is not syncing.

Won't it sync from the cable?
Am I missing something?

To sync the iPhone with the website, your iPhone must have a connection to the internet. Apple only allows the iPhone to connect to the internet via wireless. The cable is only for syncing your music/movies/etc with iTunes. It does not sync third-party apps.

Don't you have a data plan (internet) with your provider ?

Any cheap 15-20$ wireless router will greatly improve your iphone / ipod experience.
