Can this be done on the iphone version of the software. I do not want to buy it just to find out that it may not allow you to dial directly phone numbers.

The current version on our iPhone app does not do this, but we hope to add this soon. The "Todo" app made by Appigo does do this and also syncs with Toodledo, so you might want to check that out.
