Export to excel and reimport to replace

Is it possible to export tasks to Excel, tidy them up, and then re-import them *as the same tasks*?
It would be so much easier for me to mass edit in Excel and reload the tasks, but I'm afraid if I export, then import, I'll duplicate the records. |

Cannot say for sure, but If I remember correctly exporting to XML and importing back is much more reliable than exporting to excel. Probably excel doesn't support sub tasks or something like that. You can still edit that xml in any text editor.
Can go here to import or export XML http://www.toodledo.com/connect_xml.php |

I think that you will get duplicate records if you export, tidy up, and import. Not sure though.
You could export, delete all tasks -- http://www.toodledo.com/delete_tasks.php, tidy up, and import. I notice though that you are a Pro Plus subscriber, so chances are you are using subtasks. Also, you probably have files that are linked to some tasks. The CSV export (http://www.toodledo.com/connect_csv.php and which you would normally use for exporting to Excel) does not have subtask links. The subtasks get exported but you lose the connection to the parent task. The XML export does preserve the subtask info but I'm not sure how easy it is to edit the file in Excel and maintain the subtasks. And there's still the issue of attached files. You will get duplicate records. Importing and syncing are two different things. Importing will always create new records.
You could export, then delete everything off Toodledo and then re-import, but I would not recommend this solution because you might lose some data that isn't exported (like subtasks). My advice is to do the cleanup on Toodledo. |
