I did a new search using the new task format -- to show all due dates before today's date and it showed all tasks with a due date -- even in the future. Using Edge browser.

Try putting adding the year to the end of the search rule where it is looking for tasks before today's date. Something like "Before June 5, 2017". You can also do something like "due-date is before 'today'" or even "due-date was in the last 100000 days". These last two will not require the search to be updated each day.

Thank you, but if I pick the date from the pop up calendar, shouldn't the year also copy over to the search?

It will in our next update. Its trying to be smart and omit the date if its the current year, but it makes it not work perfectly for search. For now, you can try the workarounds that I suggested, which should work.
