I would like to email a whole folder to someone, not just a task at a time. Can this be done?

Yes, you can do it from the "Tools & Services" section under "Email".

only to myself, correct? i can't email my son his to-do list at a different email address?

Correct. But you could email it to yourself and then forward it to your son. Or better yet, setup collaboration so your son can just see the list on this website.
